This cream-colored volume uniquely pairs selected works from a posthumous exhibition of Robert Mapplethorpe's black-and-white photography with a newly translated edition of Arthur Rimbaud's "A Season In Hell" (1873). The famously surrealist and turbulent prose-poem sets the tone for the show, suggesting a possible union between considerations of both the poet's and photographer's tragically brief but urgently, unfiltered contributions to the art of the human experience. Printed in a limited edition of 500 in dual French and English, Rimbaud's richly textured poem is studded with reproductions of Mapplethorpe's photographs as well as with colored illustrations by exhibition collaborator Patti Smith.
