The long tradition of ethics and moral theory is one we inherit, and one that has been indelibly shaped by thought structures necessarily borne of the patriarchal position. Noddings asserts herself in a deliberately fatherless position; instead of a moral philosophy drawn by pointing, naming, and conquering man’s place in the world of ideas, Noddings demonstrates how the supposed sensitivity attributed to the feminine has yet to be considered valuable (or even recognized) to philosophy on subjects whose edges, ironically, are determined mysterious according to feminine terms: nature, caring, and ethical human relations. Her argument is not binary; she does not idealize a chthonian future of punishing women, avenging the moral history of taking-care. The context of this investigation is not the man-as-enemy, but the question this text has found no one knows how to ask yet––that, she shows, the father has never had the words for.
