Hereford. Five Seasons Press. 1984. First edition. Softcover thread-bound. Book condition: As new. 29pp. (ill. in b/w).
Originally appeared in The CoEvolution Quarterly, 1983, this is the first version published in book form, with delicate hand-threaded binding. With Snyder's customarily spiritual understanding of the natural world, the author lists the harms of civilization inflicted upon 'sacred' lands throughout modern history. In his poetic way, though, shares meditations on human ego and greed, not without a healthy dose of optimism in our ability to grow: "human beings might well awaken to their great possible place in the biosphere as sensitive transformers."
