Published on the occasion of the exhibition Rachel Whiteread Drawings, a traveling exhibition launched at the Los Angeles Hammer Museum in 2010, this volume is comprised of comprehensive survey of the English artist's drawings and a visual essay, framed by essays from curators Allegra Pesenti and Ann Gallagher. Internationally renowned for her sculptural work, Whiteread's drawings provide critical insight into the ethos of her work. Imbued with a tremendous amount of restraint and sensitivity, Whiteread deconstructs and isolates architectural planes and surfaces for an intimate exploration. Divorced from function, the subjects of these drawings take on a bodily presence, not unlike the works of Anges Martin or Eva Hesse.
