Set against the mysterious backdrop of nocturnal Paris in the 1920's, author and translator both cross and double-cross one another in this volume's culmination. American poet William Carlos Williams and French writer Philippe Soupault were both engaged in the efficacy of translation on both personal and professional leves, as means of communicating meaning between people and between the structures of meaning-making itself. The crossover space imagined as place and as incentive for collaboration in this work is eponymous for the work of translation itself, especially between artists at the juncture of this time and place in creative history.
Trans. from the French by William Carlos Williams.
