Aragon’s last collection of poetry, “Les Chambres: poème du temps qui ne passe pas” is a melancholic, lingering collection of primarily prose poems from the famous French poet, Aragon. A pioneer of the Dada and Surrealist movements, an editor of anti-Fascist journals, and active figure in the Resistance, Aragon was an active participant in the roiling world of the twentieth century. Published in 1969, this small volume is the influential writer’s last collection of poems published during his lifetime. It stands as an affective and tender homage to passing time, getting old, and the inspiration a madly lasting kind of love (specifically, for his wife Elsa Triolet, who died the following year) makes on the writer’s life and work.
