"BEING IS DYING BY LOVING,
'to love is to fight',
BEING IS DYING BY LOVING,
to swim updream to the source of light,
BEING IS DYING BY LOVING."
Spiritual poetry in free verse and prose braid together with black-and-white photographs, sketches, and archival images in this blissful volume from traveling Sufi poet Frank Zero (Frank Cobb, “Ahab Cobb”). With the same title as the Dylan song, Zero is invoking the limitlessness of Sufi Love; in a sense, the title could be “Divine Love / No Limits.” With a thoughtful preface from the late Ram Dass granting Zero the official stamp of hippie culture poetry approval, other rare traces in the text include handwritten notations, quotes from spiritual texts, the author’s astrological information, hand-drawn diagrams and symbols, and a curated kind of ekphrastic collage of images in reference to ritual, nature, and belief to visual suspend the resonating effect of his words.
