Snyder’s intuitive, impulsive writing in “Myths & Texts” is defiant with sincerity, with the desire to suspend some kind of clarity, some form to fit around the discursive space of those symbolic orders and mythic meanings you can never really say. “The morning star is not a star” starts section 1 of the book, setting an ambivalent but declarative tone that will guide, defy, and ultimately be overcome by the poet’s project itself: a slim book and a generous, rather dense publication of poems, in which Snyder enlists Bible verses, overheard excerpts, stats and his own starry, descriptive mastery in his exposure that the obsession of the poem is not truth/beauty, but to trouble and re-trouble and refuse resolution, to carry the echoes of those "myths and texts" that define our nature and show us how to go on.

Some of these poems were previously published in Ark, Black Mountain Review, Bussei, The Fifties, Galley, Sail Review, Jabberwock, The Needle, Poems & Pictures, and Yugen.
