Exhibition booklet from the third San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Biennial in 1984. Themed "The Human Condition," the publication here is comprised of installation photos, work documentation, writing, and interviews related to the ever-relevant theme. Essays like "The Politics of Emotion," "The Transavant-Gard,"  and "Painting in an Age of Anxiety" are all titles that remain intensely relevant today. Included in the exhibition were artists that blurred the line between the body and the boundaries of its societal, psychological, and physical outlines; like Francis Bacon, Leon Golub, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Philip Guston, Keith Haring, Alice Neel, Jenny Hoolzer, David Salle...and more.
