This is a beautifully preserved limited-edition release of Leonard Clark’s 1970 chapbook, ‘Walking with Trees.” Consisting of 10 nature-based poems and an etching by Samuel Palmer, attached in black & white reproduced editions. Clark’s poems seem to pulse, musically and rhythmically, as though trying to align the forest’s heartbeat with the heartbeat he makes on the page. The poems set the landscape again and again as a vista to be translated into an instant scene of poetry that, recorded here together in the texture of each page, show the infinite possible poems that wait in the trees, to be walked into.
Etching reproduction by Samuel Palmer, ‘The Herdsman’s Cottage’ (w. permission from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London).
