These fanzines are an enigma. Produced in the Netherlands and Norway, STANDARD FACTUS was as devout to their fandom as they was tongue-in-cheek. Self-proclaimed as meant "for those who want to know everything about Joy Division and New Order and want to be kept updated about all those facts that concern these groups," the zine took this promise of "everything" quite seriously. Of course you'll find news clippings, posters, and interviews; but in these issues, the above-and-beyond overpowers the expected. They review bootleg releases, present theories of the records, create song indexes and bibliographies, reveal alternate song titles and designs, go into personal histories, and use an overall tone that makes these icons feel familiar. And as an archive, FACTUS embodies an editorial enthusiasm nostalgic for this former era of the magazine.
