This small first edition from the famous 20th-century French writer of love, pleasure, and ardor, Colette, is in response and as supplement to literature’s hero of passion, Don Juan. In a way, this address to Don Juan is an address to desire’s legacy as an instrument for literary figures of masculinity. In this light, the piece itself stakes a claim in literature for a feminine voice to respond in her own voice, and to rewrite the conditions for her desire to answer.
