SUMMER READING LIST: MARTHA WEBB
So the Wind Won’t Blow It All Away by Richard Brautigan
One of my favourite reads ever for summer. I would recommend reading this book when it’s too hot to sleep, listening to Yo La Tengo’s Green Arrow.
-
Swimming Studies by Leanne Shapton
Finishing this book was like pulling oneself out from a swimming pool, I could smell the chlorine.
-
Scotland Through The Lens, Loch Tulla to Lochaber by W A Poucher
The Scottish Peaks, A Constable pictorial guide for walker and climbers by W A Poucher.
I recently moved to Scotland to pursue my own practice and hope to photograph upon my clothing line’s completion. These book are the perfect inspiration to take to the mountains of Scotland. My favourite part is that W A Poucher was not only passionate about walking and climbing but photography to and you can truly see his love within his photographs.

Space Below My Feet by Gwen Moffat
I recently purchased this and hope to read it this summer. My flatmates are really into climbing so they've been watching a lot of climber documentaries. Documentaries about yosemite and the spirited climbers of the 60’s and 70’s. I was drawn to Gwen Moffat, her love of the mountains came before anything else and how it shaped her whole life.

Agnes Martin Her Life and Art by Nancy Princenthal

Ikebana, Japanese Flower Arrangement published by The Information Office, Consulate General of Japan
SHO-FU-RYU Japanese Flower Arrangement by Founder Josui Ishikawa
I just love diagrams in Ikebana manuals. I’m currently working on a project with my sister Ella Webb. Creating a zine of hand drawn Ikebana arrangements.

POND by Claire-Louise Bennett
Swampy and beautifully bizarre. A feeling of insanity when you’ve been in the house alone for too long.
and Laura Stortenbeker who hasn’t had any work published in paper format but I just adore everything she writes.

Martha Webb is a Glasgow, Scotland-based clothing designer and photographer. We're continually struck by the way she imbues everything she shoots with the distance of memory, and the immediacy of a modern and highly assured sensibility. Martha's list is one of the most beautiful and varied we've ever received & we can't wait to start exploring her recommendations. Thanks, Martha!
