It's our 5th year in a row of posting summer reading lists from some of our favorite people! As always, BOOK/SHOP founder Erik Heywood is kicking things off with his own list of books he plans to read on sunny outings and lazy late evenings this summer season. Keep coming back for fantastic lists from a wide range of artists, designers, photographers, poets, booksellers, publishers, etc., who we admire. Happy reading!

Esme Winter is the UK-based paper goods duo of Richard Sanderson and namesake Esme Winter. We're longtime fans of their classic-endpapers-inspired notebooks & wrapping papers, and of their whole ethic in general. We're definitely fans of their beautiful summer reading list, full of old favorites & new discoveries.

Michael Ian Kaye is a New York-based creative director with a truly impressive resume, most recently as the founder of the design group at Mother New York, one of the best creative agencies in the biz. But it's his pedigree as an art and creative director for some of our favorite publishing houses (like Little, Brown & Company, Farrar, Straus, Giroux, and Penguin Books) that really wins us over. MIK has designed several iconic book covers, and his appreciation of a good dust jacket shows strong in this list, which he refers to as "My Summer Not Reading List, Things by My Bedside with the Best Intentions". Here's hoping you get to read a few of them yet, Mr. Kaye!

Landon Metz is a New York-based artist whose paintings (and use of paintings) have inspired us at Book/Shop endlessly. He is, in our opinion, the best young painter now working. Landon's work has a depth born of his wide reading (he keeps an impressive library right in his gorgeous Brooklyn painting studio), and this small sampling is, we know, a fraction of what Landon could have shared with us. We'll take it.

Malin Gabriella Nordin is a Swedish artist. She's one of the most strikingly original young creators we're aware of, and we've loved watching her remarkable creativity roam through the fields of painting, sculpture and collage over the last few years. Malin is currently participating in a group show at the excellent Ed. Varie Gallery, and she shared with us the books she brought for her stay in NYC.

Kayten Schmidt is an art director, creative consultant, and model living in Los Angeles. Browsing through Kayten's Instagram and blog it's easy to see why we're drawn to her visual sense (Cy Twombly to Kate Bush videos to 90s Jil Sander ads), and to see why she is quickly making a name for herself in Los Angeles' ever-evolving creative scene.

Rainer Judd is an artist, filmaker, actress, (not to mention keeper of the flame of her father’s titanic legacy). In short, she’s a truly remarkable person. We’re thrilled to get a look at her inspirations and influences.

Nicole Patel is a fine artist living and working in the Hudson Valley. We hosted a show of Nicole's gorgeous plaster-and-cord sculptures earlier this year, and we love her work and the spirit that informs it (shown so well here in her reading list). Nicole also has a menswear shop with her husband in New York City called C’H’C’M’, which showcases her current work, and also hosts the Book/Shop New York location. Thanks, Nicole!
